Vineyard notes: Harvest 2019 by Pere Guilera

/// Guilera 1927 /// Healthy, balanced and high quality crop _._

This year we have recovered a certain normality here in Penedès. The harvest has returned to September and the grapes have matured really well: Healthy crop, very nice acidity and an appropriate graduation. Regarding the volume, we have obtained about 10,000 kg per hectare. Therefore and summarizing, we can say that 2019 has been a very favorable year for the vineyard.

Spring has been fresh, which has delayed flowering, that has ended in mid-June. In late June and early July there was an episode of about ten days of heat. Maybe we have reached 41ºC once! But the rest of the days we have stayed below 40ºC. Low rainfall until the end of the harvest [September 30 – 276 l/m2] and fresh nights that have helped the vine plant to recover from the water stress of the day.

If we count the agricultural year [10/1/2018 – 9/30/2019], the rainfall it is about 497 l/m2, when the average annual rainfall is around 550 l/m2. This has influenced the treatments, which this year have been scant; low presence of mildew and a normal year for malure. But we must also contemplate the incidence of the rains of 2018, which were very generous: 880 l/m2! Thanks to that the land [this 2019] had very good reserves.
